Kentucky Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family Therapists

Board Seal:  Kentucky Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family TherapistsThe purpose of the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is to administer and enforce the statutory authority and to monitor the needs of the consuming public. The board examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of marriage and family therapy. It recommends appropriate changes in the law to assure fairness and equality. The board conducts formal hearings when necessary and prosecutes by due process any violators of KRS 335.300.

The board is a self-supporting agency and receives no general fund tax appropriation.  It is funded entirely through fees assessed for licensing its professionals.

Notifications / Updates

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

TO ALL SPONSORS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS:


In accordance with 201 KAR 32:030, the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family Therapists is now charging a fee for continuing education programs. The fee is $25.00 (made payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer) for each continuing education application submitted.

For a sponsor submitting multiple applications in one month, the fee shall not exceed $250.00

Any application receives without the fee will be returned.

NOTICE TO MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY ASSOCIATES

Marriage and family therapist associates are allowed to take the national Marital and Family Therapist exam at their own discretion.  Once an associate license has been issued their name is submitted to the exam service therefore making them eligible to sit for the exam.

The exam dates are posted below on this Web site.

The exam service will send the board office "Information for Candidates" packets containing all necessary forms and instruction to apply for the exam. A packet will be mailed to each eligible candidate.

You must complete all other requirements in order to be eligible for licensure as a marriage and family therapist.

2010 Meeting Dates

The board typically meets on the third Thursday and begins at 9:30 a.m. with committee meetings to begin at 8:30 a.m.  (Some dates below do not follow this procedure.)

All meetings will be held at the Division of Occupations and Professions, 911 Leawood Drive, Frankfort, Ky.

Meeting dates/times are subject to change.

Effective immediately all applications and documentation must be received in the board office 10 business days prior to the board meeting date to be put on the agenda. If this deadline is not met, it will automatically be added to the next month's agenda.

Following board meetings please allow up to two weeks for follow-up correspondence. If you have not received written correspondence from the board two weeks after the meeting, feel free to call. Please be advised that application and test results will not be given over the phone.

Individuals wishing to speak at the board meeting must submit a written request to the board office at P.O. Box 1360, Frankfort, KY 40602 no later than 10 days prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.
